Good article, agree very strongly. I personally think the Fee Brothers is offensive. I use Routin when I don't have my own, I was disappointed in the Teisseire as well.

Chris, that was how I felt about the Torani. Offensive. It almost made me think I got a bad bottle, because I don't remember it being like that before.

I'm sorry about your opinion of the Torani syrup but even sorrier that you chose to taste test the Torani Almond which is no where near the same as the Torani Orgeat. I find the Torani Orgeat to be quite nice for the $5 per litre price, I have tried all of the above listed Orgeats and more and I still prefer to use the Torani Orgeat if I don't have a batch of home-made orgeat on hand.

Cheers

Torani changed the packaging, but I don't know if they changed the syrup. Maybe they did change the formula, and that's why I used to like it.

However, as you can see from Torani's website, they are no longer making a a syrup branded simply "Orgeat." All they have is the stuff I reviewed, which is branded "Almond (Orgeat)."

So if the stuff you've got really is different, you might want to stock up before it disappears.

Looking forward to your home made article. I've done both ways, white sugar and turbinado. Not sure which I like better. I do like the way the darker version colors my Mai Tai's.

You can buy the B.G. Reynolds online. I believe i paid $20/liter each for their Orgeat, Grenadine & Passion Fruit syrups.

I made a follow-up post addressing Markahuna's above comment:

In short: the two Torani syrups in question are the same syrup -- they just changed the name.

David,

Would you mind posting the nutrition information for the small hand foods syrup and the 1883? I'm working on tweaking my orgeat recipes and that info would help, thanks!
