The weather outside is frightful. Jack Frost is nipping at your nose. You know what that means? Time for warm cocktails!
Here's my recipe for a classic that I really enjoy. The name might put you off -- sounds gross, right? -- but trust me: it's delicious.
Hot Buttered Rum
2 oz Gold/Dark Rum
2 tsp Demerara Sugar (or Brown Sugar)
1 tbsp Salted Butter
1/4 oz Allspice Dram (optional)
Hot Apple Cider or Hot Water
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
In an Irish Coffee mug (or small coffee cup), add the sugar and a small amount of cider/water. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Add rum and fill with cider/water. Add butter, allspice dram and bitters. Stir until combined.
Garnish with a cinnamon stick and/or orange slice, if desired.
Hot Buttered Rum is traditionally made with water, but you can substitute apple cider for a different spin on it. (I make it both ways.) If you don't have Allspice Dram or Angostura Bitters you can replace them with the spices of your choice. Some suggestions are: cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice or cloves.
This is a quick, easy-to-make drink that tastes good and will banish the chill from your bones. A perfect combination!
Hot Buttered Rum!! Yeah! I like it!
