Thoughts on blogging

I haven't written much the past couple of weeks. (Obviously.) My nemesis and I have been discussing lately whether blogging has played itself out for us. I sometimes feel like I'm getting close to that point. It's a lot of effort and I often don't have anything that I think is worth writing about. (And I'm supposed to be working on this damn novel.)

At the same time, several of you have expressed your appreciation for the blog, and I do enjoy having the chance to share my thoughts with you. In my small way, I try to disseminate useful information about book reviewing and different aspects of the book world, in addition to talking about specific authors and books that are of interest to me.

So I'm going to try to keep doing that. But I might not be writing as often. We'll see how the rest of my duties go and how much time I've got left for this. No matter what happens, though, I deeply appreciate the time that you folks take to read my ramblings. I hope that I can continue to be worthy of your attention.

Like anything else, once it feels like a chaore or obligation, it's not fun anymore. Just post when you feel you want to, rather because you feel you need to. Admittedly, I'd miss this blog if it were to close down.

Sheesh. Just when you and the Nemesis have me addicted to your blogs, you start talking about shutting them down. Hmpf. But I agree with Tribe. If you're not having fun with it, don't bother - life's too short.

One minor detail, though - if you're not blogging, how will I know who won the bet? ;-)

Your blog is great, and I am amazed how you find time to do it. I am quite frankly amazed at how some people (Lee Goldberg and Lynn Viehl come to mind) are able to blog so frequently, given all the different projects they work on. I barely have enough time to read these blogs, much less write my own.

David, from my vast experience at blogging (I started in what, January of this year?) and years of reading blogs - okay, um, I started what late in '04?). Wait, maybe a different tack.
Okay, Sarah writes every day but on the sabbath but she's nuts! I don't know anyone whose blog is interesting who doesn't sometimes run out or run down. Seems to me you always have something interesting to say, when you say it. Just say what you want to when you want - I suspect we'll all hang around to read it.

Glad to see today's missive anyway, David. I was just about to write you to make sure you were okay. I'd miss the blog, but if you think it's drying up on you, I'll just have to settle for an occasional email.

I don't know where you find the time to do all that you do either-but I'm going to tell you the same thing I'll be telling Guyot-I'd miss you greatly and the smiles, the laughs and the insights your comments always bring to the chaotic world of us writers.
